🚨BREAKING: Congress has passed H.R. 9594! 🚨

This bill is framed around a provision that offers tax relief to Americans held hostage abroad, but it was really designed to allow the treasury secretary to designate any nonprofit as a 'terrorist supporting organization' and revoke its tax-exempt status.

The U.S. government has a long history of disproportionately weaponizing “terrorist” terminology and propaganda against progressive movements and marginalized communities, including BIPOC and environmental activists. H.R. 9495 will absolutely target or endanger any organization fighting project 2025, the animal agriculture and fossil fuels industries, or advocating for Palestinian emancipation and Land Back.

Transgender and gender-expansive people face disproportionately high systemic and social violence with over 600 anti-trans bills continuing to be introduced across the country this year. Since last November, at least thirty were reported murdered in the U.S. and Pureto Rico.

Today and everyday we love and honor our intersex community, who are continually fighting misinformation and discrimination against their very existence.

It’s hard to know exactly how many people are intersex, but estimates suggest that about 1-2 in 100 people born in the U.S. are intersex. Non-consensual medical procedures aimed at “normalizing” their bodies are still performed on intersex babies, often leading to lifelong trauma, health issues, and confusion.

Intersex people have been marginalized within society and, at times, within LGBTQA2S+ spaces, making it essential to center their experiences and ensure they are genuinely included.

Through education we can bring more acceptance, advocacy, and understanding to our LGBTQIA2S+ community and beyond about our gender and sexual orientation spectrums.

Two years after the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling overturned Roe v. Wade, victims of domestic violence face even greater challenges.

The link between restricted abortion access and non-consensual sex is undeniable, with over 133,000 people reporting such incidents in just one year since the ruling. Coercion is one of the most common forms of abuse. Many survivors access abortion care after escaping violence, helping them take back their autonomy and life. Now, more than ever, we must support and amplify the voices of those most affected as abortion access becomes increasingly more difficult particularly for vulnerable people.

Israel’s genocidal destruction in Gaza and across Palestine has caused severe environmental damage, deeply impacting Palestinians and marginalized communities worldwide. This devastation deepens the humanitarian crisis, exacerbates inequalities, worsens resource scarcity, disrupts ecosystems, and contributes to pollution and climate change on a global scale.

The U.S. government’s complicity in supporting and enabling this genocide through the military-industrial complex ensures that the most vulnerable communities bear the brunt of this widespread and devastating violence, prioritizing profit over people both here and abroad.

Here in Florida, the worsening effects of climate change are evident in the increasing frequency and intensity of hurricanes, which disproportionately affect our vulnerable communities. As these storms grow more destructive, many people, particularly low-income, disabled, BIPOC, and imprisoned residents are left to suffer or die without adequate support or resources, increasing the dangerous consequences of a system that puts profit and power above people and environmental sustainability. We need a ceasefire and arms embargo now.

Update via @fighttoxicprisons: Hurricane Milton is set to make land fall on the west coast of Florida later this evening as a Category 3 with not enough time left to evacuate carceral facilities at most risk. While windshear helped reduce Milton's strength it will still be a devastating direct hit on Florida.

While Orient Road Jail did evacuate in Hillsborough County; Manattee, Lee, Pinellas, and St. Johns County jails are not evacuating, leaving incarcearted people inside Mandatory Evacuation Zones.

Additionally multiple state prisons in Hernando, Pasco, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and Lee counties have not evacuated accoridng to reporting from Fresh Take Florida.

After the devastation of Helene, mutual aid groups and community members are mobilizing to assist their neighbors through the crisis. Femme and BIPOC focused collectives are helping bring essential health supplies to marginalized communities whose needs are often overlooked.

Extreme weather events like Hurricane Helene further restrict access to period products, abortion services, birth control, and more, disproportionately affecting women, girls, and gender-diverse people who already deal with complex financial inequalities and hostile healthcare environments.

Sexual and reproductive health is intricately woven into every facet of our lives and actions, shaping access to essential rights and resources like healthcare, safety, education, and equitable opportunities for marginalized communities.

Hurricane Katrina caused disruption in family planning services for people in New Orleans even five to six months after the storm. At that time 40% of people reported they weren’t using birth control, while 4% experienced an unintended pregnancy because they couldn’t access care.

Ensuring every person, no matter who they are and where they live, has access to sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice, is foundational to their economic, mental, and physical well-being — especially during and after extreme weather events.

Abolishing the prison industrial complex includes factory farms and slaughterhouses. During climate crisis, prisoners—both human and nonhuman—are left to suffer and die. When Hurricane Helene struck, we knew hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of lives were left to drown in the path of the storm.

Thank you to @ash.with.earth for working to determine the nonhuman animal death toll from Hurricane Helene. The current estimated nonhuman death toll is in the millions. We shared mutual aid groups and sanctuaries to support in our saved story.

The human death toll from Helene has risen to 230.

Our hearts are with all the victims of climate catastrophe, especially those whose lives and struggles remain unseen. 💔

BREAKING: In a Monday decision, Fulton Judge Robert McBurney rules Georgia’s roughly six-week abortion ban is unconstitutional and blocks it from being enforced.

“Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr is expected to ask the state Supreme Court to block today’s ruling and reinstate the ban this week. We are prepared to continue fighting this case regardless, and we will NOT back down from this fight.”

The court also found that a provision of the law which gave district attorneys broad access to the medical records of abortion care patients is a VIOLATION of Georgians' constitutional right to privacy.

This is a big deal for Floridians and Southerners, as we head into our sixth month of the six-week abortion ban. Whether this ruling will remain or be overturned is still uncertain, but for now, this will hopefully bring more access to abortion seekers and alleviate a little bit of the immense pressure abortion funds, providers, and their communities have been under, particularly in Georgia, across the South, and upstate abortion safe havens.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Marcellus Williams, who have experienced an unimaginable loss.

Gisèle uncovered she was being drugged and raped by countless men after finding out there were roughly over 20,000 pictures of them in the act, all organized by her own husband.

This went on for 10 years without her knowing. She said “For 50 years, I lived with a man who I would’ve never imagined could be capable of this. I trusted him completely”.

“Although she had the option of a private trial, Gisele Pelicot decided to make the proceedings public in order to support and raise awareness for other victims of similar crimes. ‘I speak for all women who are drugged and don't know about it, I do it on behalf of all women who will perhaps never know,’ Gisèle Pelicot said of her case. In total, police have used roughly 20,000 images her husband took of the assaults to determine that 72 men had been involved in raping her from 2011 to 2020.” - Li Zhou, Vox

I know there are a lot of us who have never reported what was done to us, never been able to seek a sort of justice, but I hope that sharing stories like Gisèle’s can bring awareness, give us a voice, and the courage to seek help or find support whatever that looks like, because you deserve it.

Access to health and hygiene products during climate disasters can fluctuate, especially in places impacted by abortion bans. In northern Gaza Strip, Zionist occupation forces threw a pregnant woman from a roof to the ground and shot another pregnant woman in her feet, leaving her to bleed to death. These women were killed in front of their families, including their children and husbands, as well as the world. The intent was clear: to eliminate pregnant women and children, to erase the Palestinian presence in all its forms. They sought to kill everyone who could bring growth and hope to Gaza and Palestine. They feared the unborn fetuses, and thus, they killed mothers without mercy or humanity. Even the fetus in its mother’s womb became a target for the genocidal settlers.

This is not an isolated incident! There are many reported and unreported incidents of targeted attacks on pregnant women. On August 25th it was reported that Emad Abu Eid and his 7 months pregnant wife were hanged to death by zionist occupation forces and thrown onto a rooftop in the town of Al-Qarara, southern Gaza Strip.

❕🏳️‍⚧️ A federal appeals court has overturned Judge Hickle’s ruling against a Florida gender-affirming care ban.

On June 11, U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle in Tallahassee struck down the law, ruling in favor of plaintiffs who had challenged it in court.

Judge Hinkle determined that the law was unconstitutional due to its discriminatory nature and was motivated by “animus.”

Yesterday, a federal appeals court permitted Florida to enforce the ban on gender-affirming care for minors, blocking the lower court order against the ban.

The law reinstated by the court’s decision bans the prescription of puberty blockers and hormone treatments to minors, even if their parents consent.

Additionally, the law mandates that transgender adults can only receive treatment from a doctor and not from a registered nurse or other qualified medical practitioner. Adults who want the treatment must be in the room with the physician when signing the consent form.

We are deeply saddened and concerned about the trauma and barriers this will create. The state of healthcare in Florida and across the Southern U.S. is facing a troubling decline, particularly for marginalized communities. This ruling undermines critical access to care for those who need it most, exacerbating disparities and affecting the well-being of 94,900 estimated trans Floridians.

A total of 91,269 physicians possess a license that allows them to practice in Florida. Of these physicians, 80,629 renewed their medical license during 2021 and 2022 and responded to the workforce survey. Of those surveyed, 58,062 are providing direct patient care.

We urge continued advocacy and support for those impacted by these extreme bans. 💔

Women’s Equality Day, observed annually on August 26, marks the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted (white) women the right to vote in the United States. While this amendment was a victory, it did not ensure voting rights for all women. Black and Indigenous women, particularly in the South, continued to face discrimination and systemic disenfranchisement.

Ida B. Wells, a pioneering journalist, educator, and civil rights leader, played a critical role in advocating for the rights of Black women during this era. A co-founder of the NAACP, Wells was a vocal critic of both racial injustice and gender inequality. She relentlessly campaigned against lynching and other forms of racial violence, while also advocating for Black women’s suffrage.

Ida was one of the Black women who was instructed to march at the back of the suffragette parade, but she boldly made her way to the front to march alongside her state delegate when it started.

Her legacy is a powerful reminder that the struggle for equality is multifaceted, and true progress requires the inclusion and upliftment of all marginalized voices.

SONYA MASSEY SHOULD STILL BE ALIVE.

On July 6th, at approximately 1:21 am, Sonya Massey, a
36-year-old Black woman from Springfield, Illinois, was tragically murdered in her own home after calling 911.
Concerned about a possible intruder, Sonya did what anyone would do-she reached out to the authorities for protection. However, Deputy Sean Grayson arrived and ended up shooting her. Despite her attempts to comply with his instructions, the deputy’s actions resulted in Sonya being killed.

Grayson has since been indicted on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and official misconduct.

Sonya was a beloved mother, daughter and friend. She was just 36 years old, survived by her two children.
